From Your Pal                                         October 2007

"Pastor Al, I really look forward to events like youth convention, college days, and fine arts because they help me get refreshed and re-energized in my spiritual life." Who said this? One of our students who attend 876 Student Ministries. But this same belief is also echoed by many students who attend events like "Fall Youth Convention."
I'm not sure if you ever had the opportunity to attend a convention or camp when you were young, but I was fortunate to. Even to this day, these events have been benchmarks in my life. I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at Convention when I was seventeen years old. And my call to full time ministry was confirmed when I went to camp as a counselor when I was eighteen years old.
But there are other benefits to "Fall Youth Convention" as well. Within a twenty-four hour period your Jr. or Sr. High student can participate in two huge youth services with around 1,500 other students from Michigan. There is going to be a top of the line speaker, Monty Hipp, and an incredible worship team from North Central University. There will be relevant topics that deal with where your teen is at and plenty of time to seek God around the altar following each service.
Instead of writing an article that has to deal with a family issue this month I thought that I would throw out this challenge. "Fall Youth Convention" really does have the ability to change the life of your teenager. It also has the ability to change the culture of a youth ministry program, which I am praying fervently for. Because of that I'm hoping that this year we can take thirty students with us.
Would you consider sending your teenager? "Fall Youth Convention" is for students 6th - 12th grade. It will be taking place November 2nd & 3rd in Grand Rapids. The cost is $65 (plus money for 3 meals) per student with a nonrefundable deposit of $40 due Wednesday, Oct. 3rd (if you receive this newsletter after Oct. 3rd just let me know and we can work something out). Also, you will want to see me as soon as possible for all the appropriate forms for your child to go (permission slip, medical release form, etc.).
For every one who is reading this and you don't have a teenager, we just ask that you would pray for us. Pray that God will move in the lives of these students like never before. May He light in them an incredible fire that will cause them to go after God like never before.

October Highlights

Kroger gift cards
Gift cards will again be available for purchase Sunday, Oct. 7th after the morning service. They are now sold in INCREMENTS OF $5 ONLY and then can be recharged each and every time you visit Kroger's. This also makes it easier when you purchase them, as they are only $5 a piece. Why buy a gift card? Because Kroger will donate 5% of our total purchase (after reloads) to us, which in turn, we will give it to Speed The Light.
