March
2008
March
has become the month for Fair Haven's Annual Business Meeting and my
STATE OF THE CHURCH Message. This year I plan to share the results of
our latest Natural Church Development Survey, as well as talk about
some specific ways Fair Haven can become a strong voice for Jesus in
Central Wayne County. Using the word V.O.I.C.E., I have tried to identify
several elements that are needed for us to be the voice I believe Jesus
wants us to be.
What is needed to become the V.O.I.C.E.
of Jesus?
Vibrant
encounters with God. To be the voice of Jesus, we need to hear the voice
of Jesus. The most vital thing in our lives is the ongoing encounters
we have with God. Our hope is that, on Sunday mornings, people will
experience "Holy Moments", where God is noticeably present,
whether through our singing, our prayers, the morning message, etc.
An Outward-looking focus. To be the voice of
Jesus, our message must reach the ears and hearts of those outside the
four walls of the church. We want our friends and acquaintances to experience
the life-changing power of a personal relationship with Jesus. And we
want to be involved in meaningful endeavors that are truly making a
difference in the lives of people in our community and throughout the
world.
An Intentional plan to grow spiritually.
To be the voice of Jesus, we need to let His words sink deep into our
individual lives. The Christian journey is a life-long, growing relationship
where we are continually desiring more of God and we are developing
character qualities that reflect the noble character of Jesus. Such
a journey is typical of those who call Fair Haven "home".
A Community rich in forgiveness and mercy.
To be the voice of Jesus, we must reflect the love of Jesus. Jesus told
His closest followers that people would know they were His disciples
if they truly loved one another. We are striving to provide an environment
where people feel safe and loved, where they can experience spiritual,
emotional, and physical healing trough the power of God's Spirit and
His word.
Everyone is seen as a valuable, contributing
member of the church. To be the voice of Jesus, every member has to
be a part. Every Christ-follower has been given a special ability (a
Spiritual gift) to use for God's glory. When everyone does his/her part,
the entire organization benefits and grows, and the voice of Jesus is
heard.
Throughout March and April I (along with
Pastor Al & Pastor Chuck) will embark on a Sermon Series that will
highlight these V.O.I.C.E. ELEMENTS. My prayer is that you will catch
the vision and you'll be an integral part of helping Fair Haven become
a strong voice for Jesus in Central Wayne County.
Blessings to you -
Pastor Gus Flaherty
